The "Faust" material, begun in 1773, occupied Goethe (1749-1832) literally for a lifetime. Mephisto promises to satisfy Faust's insatiable pursuit of action and knowledge. Faust betting his soul against it. Together, they journey through the small and the great world that leads them into life with all its temptations and temptations. Faust is the image of a restless man, who strives for knowledge and puts action in place of the word. He betrays and destroys everything that was once dear and precious to him: the science, the beloved, his own child and then nature, his own future. Is he himself the force that always wants the good and always creates the evil?
