The celebrated singer Tosca lives only for art, until political intrigues suddenly break into the lives of the artist and her lover, the painter Cavaradossi: When he hides the political refugee Angelotti, he comes into the sights of the unscrupulous police chief Scarpia, who has long been keeping an eye on him threw at Tosca. In order to save Cavaradossi, Tosca not only has to betray Angelotti, but also has to give herself to Scarpia. Hardly any opera interweaves political arbitrariness and personal passions as closely as Puccini's "Tosca" from 1900. And the drama about love, jealousy, betrayal and arbitrariness had its German premiere in Dresden as early as 1902. Director Johannes Schaaf has found a timeless narrative style for this.
