Thomas Quasthoff & Amatis Trio

Thomas Quasthoff and the Amatis Trio are guests at the Palais im Großer Garten with a very special program: “Humanity in War” explores the consequences of war and its effects on people in words and music. History often reduces wars to a collection of statistics, behind which personal fates and stories remain hidden. During the First World War, pen and paper were often the only way to stay in touch with loved ones far away. Based on these field post letters, an incredible 30 billion of which were sent on the German side alone, Quasthoff and the Amatis Trio trace humanity in times of war and the personal struggle of people behind the statistics. The letters and diaries, in harmony with works of (late) Romanticism and modernity, reveal the greatest aspects of (common) humanity and impressively show that mutual respect, appreciation and respect for dignity - even among opponents - are the essential cornerstones our community are.
