The young adventurer Peer Gynt sets out to become “King of the World”. He seduces and leaves, always looking for himself. On the way he meets many benevolent and scheming people, is inspired, but also betrayed and never really accepted anywhere. Aside from his aged mother Aase, whom he buries with a heavy heart, it is only the girl Solveig who loves him and waits for him all his life back home, because that's how long it takes for Peer to return home. The Swedish choreographer Johan Inger, most recently seen in Dresden with “Walking Mad” and “Carmen”, adapts the life journey and search for identity of the unstable happiness seeker Peer Gynt into a full-length ballet that premiered in Basel in 2017. In a cross-disciplinary work of art consisting of dance, pantomime and singing, with impressively narrative body language, wit and humor, Inger translates Peer Gynt's life and experiences into individual phases of his own career as an artist.
