Elena Urioste & Chineke! Orchestra

When Chi-chi Nwanoku, a double bassist with Nigerian roots, was asked in 2014 during a study by the British Ministry of Culture why there were hardly any black musicians in orchestras, the artist was confronted with a situation that she had previously accepted as a given. Just a few days later, the idea for a foundation for an ethnically diverse orchestra was born: Chineke!. This special and outstanding sound body in many ways, whose name stands for "God, the creator of the world and of goodness" in the Nigerian Igbo language, already caused a sensation at its debut in 2015 at the Southbank Center in London. Two years later, she was invited to the legendary BBC Proms at the Royal Albert Hall. The ensemble has now enjoyed great success on the international stage and is now finally making a stop at the Dresden Music Festival, supported by the American violinist Elena Urioste as a soloist in Max Richter's version of Vivaldi's "Four Seasons" dressed in a modern garb.
