Since his victory at the “Chopin Competition” in 2015, the South Korean Seong-Jin Cho has been one of the great artists on the piano scene. The Berliner by choice, who took his first musical steps on his instrument at the age of six and had his first public appearance at the age of eleven, was named the most popular pianist in the world in an online survey by the Universal Music Group. In his home country he enjoys almost pop star status. But that doesn't impress Seong-Jin Cho, whose multi-faceted and brilliant playing doesn't involve any showmanship. For his solo recital in Dresden, in addition to Ravel's "Gaspard de la nuit", one of the most important piano works of the 20th century, he also included two lesser-known pieces by the French impressionist. Music from Liszt's second volume of "Années de pèlerinage" rounds off this special piano evening in the beautiful ambience of the Palais in the Great Garden.
