The comic opera »The Barber of Seville« by Gioachino Rossini, which premiered in 1816, is subtitled »Useless Caution« – and that is exactly what it is about: full of jealousy, old Dottore Bartolo tries to protect his ward Rosina in the house, in order to make it rich himself to marry for inheritance. But in vain: the young and much more charming Count Almaviva, thanks to masquerade and the help of the barber Figaro, gains access to the heart of the young woman. With its virtuoso arias and fast-paced ensembles, »The Barber of Seville« is Rossini's most popular opera, and Grischa Asagaroff's staging brings the game of false identities and intrigues to a wonderfully comedic level.
