Jakub Hrůša, born in Brno, Czech Republic in 1981, is one of the most successful conductors of his generation and has thrilled music festival audiences with his performances on several occasions. For the final concert of the »HORIZONTE« season he can now be seen with the Czech Philharmonic Orchestra in the Palace of Culture. The Prague orchestra, rich in tradition and praised for its warm sound, and its conductor of honor have brought a colorful program with compositions by their compatriot Smetana, who would have celebrated his 200th birthday in 2014. The musical journey leads from overtures to the operas “The Bartered Bride” and “Two Widows” to the symphonic poem “Hakon Jarl” to the orchestral piece “Prague Carnival” and other works from the Czech Romantic's diverse oeuvre. The evening ends with the famous "Vltava", in which Smetana describes the course of the river, starting from the two sources to the mouth of the Elbe, in impressive musical images.
