Since its founding in 1842, the Vienna Philharmonic has stood for exquisite orchestral sound and is considered a legendary institution whose musical culture inspires enthusiasm around the world. For the guest performance at the Kulturpalast, Christian Thielemann, a specialist in the 19th century repertoire, will be at the helm of the world-class ensemble - the ideal cast for a program that combines the symphonic debuts of Schumann and Bruckner. Robert Schumann, who was finally happily married to his Clara, composed his “Spring Symphony” in just a few days and wrote all his happiness into the music, which comes across as airy and life-affirming. Bruckner's C minor symphony was written while he was employed at Linz Cathedral and is a work full of elementary and sometimes exuberant power. The concert will feature the second version, revised by the composer more than twenty years later, in which youthful exuberance meets the mature symphonist.
