Weil immer das Meer vor der Liebe ist
The Austrian poet Hertha Kräftner (1928-1951) was only 23 years old, but her narrow work, trained in the existentialism of Sartre and Camus, is full of eloquent longing and profound description of the world. A literature that seems to arise from the rubble of history itself, with a language that is like music, delicate and desperate, silent and committed to the search for love.
Accompanied by the Viennese drummer and jazz musician Judith Schwarz, actress Sylvie Rohrer gives insights into the poetry and life of a great and today largely unknown poet of the post-war years in Vienna. Like Maria Lazar and Anna Gmeyner, Hertha Kräftner is one of the forgotten Austrian authors whose writing the Burgtheater is currently dedicating to readings and productions.
