Turandot - Schedule, Program & Tickets
Turandot
A long time ago in distant China ...
The same spectacle has always been the case for years: Noble suitors from all over the world are courting Princess Turandot, who ties her conquest to the solution of three riddles. Whoever fails dies. Calaf witnesses an execution, but cannot avoid Turandot's aura. Nothing dissuades him from his decision to win the princess over.
Productions of Puccini's last opera often turn out to be stereotypical extravaganza. What seemed exotic and interesting in the year of its premiere in 1926 does not report anything new almost a hundred years later and runs the risk of giving the impression of an over-decorated Chinese restaurant. Renaud Doucet and André Barbe therefore took a different path and relocated the fairy tale about the ice-cold princess to the exotic realm of insects.
