Tod eines Pudels

Satirical song recital

Music by Ludwig van Beethoven, Franz Schubert, Robert Schumann, Johannes

Brahms, Georges Bizet, Gustav Mahler, Erich Wolfgang Korngold and others

Who does not know the classic song recital? The lyrical tenor Gustav Walter founded him around the middle of the 19th century in Vienna by organizing public concerts where he sang his interpretations of Schubert songs. This form of concert evening is still very popular today, whether it takes place in a large concert hall or in the living room of the artist next door. Most of the time, the audience knows what to expect: given song cycles such as Beethoven's An der fern Geliebte or Mahler's Kindertotenlieder, thematic focal points such as seasons, (religious) festivals, countries or moods as well as homages to personalities (Goethe song recital), composers (Schubertiade) or famous singers. Optionally, the singer puts together a personal program, which ideally not only consists of a repertoire that has already been randomly pieced together, but also reflects the artist's artistic profile. There are few limits to the artistic imagination and so this basically simple concert form can take place anywhere in the world in a variety of ways and expandable. But many song evenings have one thing in common: they often transport - not always! - a certain seriousness or objectivity. But there is another way! In the recital Death of a Poodle, classic and comic meet in the form of mezzo-soprano Angelika Kirchschlager and satirist Alfred Dorfer on stage. And that's not all, this duo also invites a singing surprise guest every evening. At first glance, the composers listed in the program, starting with Beethoven or Schubert, through Schumann, Brahms to Mahler or Korngold, promise a very "classic" evening - this is not held. It's not just a simple crossover, a mix of styles, but what's going on behind the facade of this mysterious classic branch. And who could give better information here than Angelika Kirchschlager, who has already seen backstage areas from New York to Tokyo?
