Lulu is one of the best-known and most discussed female characters in drama literature. The transformation of the young Lulu from a provocative Lolita figure from the gutter to the femme fatale of the Parisian demimonde excited the minds of the Wilhelmine era and was the reason for three court hearings. Picked up from the street by her lover, she is married off to two men one after the other. Both try to shape her according to their own ideas. Lulu longs for love in vain and is broken by the fact that she is only seen as an object of desire.
"The versions of the Lulu material occupied Frank Wedekind almost his entire life. As he writes in the preface to Pandora's Box, he subjected this work to thorough revision before 'every new publication'. This long and complicated creation process proves this "It is also a process of self-reflection on the part of the author, which in turn also involves the public or is aimed at them - in the prefaces to censorship decisions, through text additions such as the prologue from 1898, through the self-commentary What I thought about it or in the large essay on acting."

In his adaptation, Elmar Goerden will take a contemporary look at this exciting and ambivalent female figure, who for a long time was reduced to clichés such as the innocent, instinctive child-woman or the demonic, sinful woman.
