I want to die a decent human being, the way I lived.
Richard Gaertner

The right to a self-determined life always brings with it the question of the right to a self-determined death. After long debates, according to a decision by the Constitutional Court in Vienna in December 2020, it is unconstitutional to ban any type of assisted suicide without exception. Indirect (accelerating the onset of death as a side effect of medication) and passive (abstaining from life-prolonging measures) euthanasia are now permitted by law, while active euthanasia (ending the life of another person, e.g. through medication) is still prohibited.

What is a human life worth in our society? What degree of self-determination and heteronomy is an individual confronted with? What are the rights and responsibilities of being thrown into this life?

After his successful play Terror mit Gott, Ferdinand von Schirach presents a new negotiation drama. The question of absolute human autonomy is examined from an ethical, political and religious point of view, and in the end it is up to the audience to vote for a decision on the outcome of the negotiation.
