Engel der Dämmerung. Marlene Dietrich

The wound burns. —
the pale lips tremble. —
I feel it in my heart
faint blow,
Here I am standing at the brands
of my days. —
God, as you wish,
I have surrendered to you. —
Theodor Körner

“Here I stand at the marks of my days” – this line of poetry, her first name and her life dates are everything that the probably first international film star from Germany wanted to see on his gravestone. We're talking about none other than Marlene Dietrich.

As briefly and succinctly as she marked her final resting place for posterity, her life was so diverse and colorful: as the “Blue Angel,” she became a film star – and a sex symbol – almost overnight. Her rejection of National Socialism made her an emigrant - and a Hollywood diva. She was involved in looking after troops in the Allied armed forces - and was known as a women's rights activist.
Marlene Dietrich shaped an entire generation as a style icon - and questioned common role clichés with her style.
Marlene Dietrich finally broke with her position in the spotlight in a drastic way: after her last film shoot in 1979, she no longer left her apartment in Paris and - now addicted to pills and alcohol - spent the last decade of her life exclusively in her bed.

The new musical theater evening by Torsten Fischer and Herbert Schäfer approaches the diva in an intimate way and looks back on her extraordinary life. After the resounding successes of Blue Moon and Lenya Story, Angel of Twilight once again offers a star role for Sona MacDonald.
