Nosferatu - Schedule, Program & Tickets

Nosferatu

A castle, a house, an institution. It is the place where everything happened. The abode of an immortal creature, Nosferatu, who transcends the centuries, who cannot die, and is forced to continually remember the eternal killing. Those who encounter her must confront the unspeakable within themselves. First there is Harker, who takes a trip to the mysterious countess' castle and soon finds herself a prisoner there. Then Lucy and her mother, Mina, a doctor, the patient Renfield. They are all tied to the phantom Nosferatu and have long been tied to the place where numerous atrocities have taken place. Trapped in their memories, the time levels blur together, creating a panopticon of horror. What is the monstrous in us? What can we do to counter him?

NOSFERATU is Australian director Adena Jacobs' second work at the Burgtheater after DIE TROERINNEN. Powerful and poetic, it is dedicated to the intangible fear that manifests itself in Nosferatu then and now. With a text by author Gerhild Steinbuch and quotes from Bram Stoker's “Dracula,” Jacobs interprets the novel's characters in a new way and lets them meet in a traumatized landscape.
