Already in the first verses of the NIBELUNGEN SONG they are immortalized, the famous heroes and brave men from whom we have “wondered a lot in old times”. The material owes its popularity not only to this Middle High German heroic epic, but also to Richard Wagner's opera tetralogy and Friedrich Hebbel's “German tragedy” written in Vienna. Even today, the story of the dragon slayer Siegfried is varied and retold in countless film adaptations and TV series. However, the key characters in this story are two women: the two “Hildes” Brünhild and Kriemhild are betrayed by the statesmen Gunther and Hagen, which leads to Siegfried's dastardly murder and ultimately to the downfall of the Burgundian family.

With EVERYONE ( DIES ), the Graz playwright and language artist Ferdinand Schmalz rewritten Hofmannsthal's mystery play in 2018 for the Burgtheater. For the Worms Festival in 2020, he took on the epic of the Nibelungs and created a Hilden saga from the heroes: He provides the two queens Brünhild and Kriemhild with three Norns who interrupt the fateful dispute between the queens in front of Worms Cathedral and unite the events give new course. The heroines take the strings of fate into their own hands. Will women now save the world and defeat the omnipresent hatred?
