“There where the ore is buried, there where the day never shines, there where the bones lie, there where no heaven weeps”: Brixlegg, Tyrol, 1953. Aloisia and Rudolf meet on the platform, she is looking for a father for her daughter, he per newspaper ad a mother for his children. Marked by war experiences, work in the mine and the world of the village post-war patriarchy, the two decide to live together, to start over as a family. The past in the form of Aloisia's sister, Herta, breaks into their life together, as do the repressed traumas of working underground, which repeatedly force their way into consciousness in nightmarish sequences.

The author tells of a life that seems shaped and dominated by the omnipresent and overpowering Tyrolean mountains far away from the world, and yet takes place in the middle of the history of the 20th century: The political events of the time accompany the family cosmos and show the milestones of the changing times in the life history of the Austrian post-war generations.

With ADERN, Lisa Wentz wins the Retzhofer Drama Prize 2021.
