THE Art of Song
The subscription series «The Art of Song» will take you on a journey through the world of part singing, starting with the Swedish quintet, The Real Group. Formed in 1984, the group’s name says it all: the «Real-Book» is the bible of jazz musicians, so to speak, with the melodies and chord progressions of the best-known jazz numbers. Their repertoire ranges from jazz scat singing and Danish and Latvian folk songs to hits from musicals and cover versions of pop songs such as George Michael's «Freedom». But they even dip their toes into classical and country music territory. The Scandinavian songsters are just as at home in Mozart as in Nat King Cole and can convincingly imitate a full brass combo with nothing but their voices. The band is touring with its new album «Elements». The numbers are often accompanied by vocal percussion that really sounds like a drum machine. But all of the notes, sounds and melodies are reproduced live on stage.
