The Flames of Paris - Schedule, Program & Tickets
The Flames of Paris
Classical ballet in three acts
Set in the time of the French Revolution and sweeping in its power and speed, The Flames of Paris could be described as one of the most successful Soviet ballets; At the first performances, every last member of the audience stood up and sang La Marseillaise with the artists.
At that time and in this place, this joint effort by the composer, the librettist and the choreographer to create a real ballet drama was considered innovative. This emblematic ballet story requires the dancers to have a high level of skill in both classical ballet technique and character representation. It was last performed at the Budapest Opera in 1977, and Michael Messerer redesigned the piece for the Hungarian National Ballet in 2021.
