ITINERARY
So close to Vienna and yet in the mountains! This tour will take you to Semmering, a beautiful recreation area that used to be the summer resort of Vienna’s upper class. Today, you can go on hiking tours on countless paths and relax while taking in the beautiful views.

Visit to Zauberberg

Our bus takes us to Semmering and the Zauberberg valley station. The cable car takes us up 1340 m high Hirschenkogel, affording a breath-taking view of the surrounding mountains. You will have some free time for lunch in the panorama restaurant or to climb the stairs to the “Millennium” viewing platform. You can also go for a relaxing walk and enjoy the splendid view and unspoilt nature.

Afterwards, we will take the cable car back down into the valley - but if you are feeling particularly adventurous, you can rent a mountain cart and ride down on your own!

World Cultural Heritage site Semmering Railway

A guided tour provides insights into the Semmering Railway’s fascinating history. Learn about the obstacles that had to be overcome to plan the route, the tragedies that accompanied its construction, and hear how Europe’s first mountain railway with a standard gauge track was built in only six years. The Semmering Railway is part of the UNESCO World Cultural Heritage. A short walking tour takes us to the view that once decorated the (now obsolete) 20 schilling banknote: a viaduct of 184 metres length and 46 metres height.

Maria Schutz pilgrimage church

After this extensive tour, our bus will take us to Maria Schutz, Lower Austria’s largest pilgrimage site dedicated to the Virgin Mary. Visit the baroque hall church with its mighty two-steeple façade and a healing spring behind the high altar. At the end of our tour, we will treat you to a Krapfen – an Austrian doughnut-like specialty filled with apricot jam.
