Romeo und Juliette - Schedule, Program & Tickets
Romeo und Juliette
This is one of the Norwegian National Ballet’s greatest successes. “Romeo and Juliet is not just ballet, but dance at its grandest,” wrote Dagsavisen in 2011. This was the first time the Norwegian National Ballet performed the ballet in Bjørvika and the production ended with two critics’ award nominations and one critics’ award.
The Godfather
This version of William Shakespeare’s immortal drama bears the signature of British Michael Corder. He believes that Romeo and Juliet is not only one of the world’s most beautiful love stories, but also a kind of Godfather story about two families who hate each other: “Shakespeare’s text and Prokofiev’s fantastic music portray something reminiscent of a mafia drama,” he says.
Since its premiere in 1992, Romeo and Juliet has been a favourite of both audiences and critics alike. In the spring of 2020, som new choreographed parts will be included in the other choreography.
Audience favourite
Romeo and Juliet is one of the most popular ballets ever performed. Choreographers like Frederick Ashton, John Cranko, Sir Kenneth MacMillan, John Neumeier and Rudolf Nurejev have all created their own versions of William Shakespeare’s immortal story of two youths in love who cannot be together because their families are arch enemies. But they choose one another all the same because, after all, what’s in a name?
