LUDWIG
In his short story Wittgenstein's Nephew, published in 1982, Thomas Bernhard describes his friendship with Paul Wittgenstein, the nephew of the philosopher Ludwig Wittgenstein. The descendant of one of the richest families in Austria and the enfant terrible of Viennese society spent many years of his life in psychiatric institutions. In 1986, Bernhard made his friend the protagonist of a play that owes its title to the actors at the world premiere.
"In almost all of Bernhard's dramas, the characters gather around a table: It's the scenario that challenges communication like nothing else and yet inevitably leads to disaster. Such a scene has to end in disaster. In Bernhard's case, it ends in the choux pastry catastrophe ."
