Richard Wagner: "Die Walküre" - Schedule, Program & Tickets

Richard Wagner: "Die Walküre"

After the connections around the ring were the focus of “Rheingold” and the power structure of the gods proved to be fragile in the end, the plot of “Walküre” picks up on the events years later. Wotan, guided by his own desire for the ring, needs a “free man” to assert his interests. As a whale, he fathered the twins Siegmund and Sieglinde, who become pawns in his game for power. When the two, who were separated early, meet again and fall in love, Fricka, Wotan's wife, is deeply outraged. Wotan has to leave his protégé Siegmund to fate. However, the Valkyrie Brünnhilde, his favorite daughter, is touched by the siblings' love and supports them - against her father's wishes.
In “Walküre” the events of the “Ring” epic are condensed in a dramatic way. The orchestra becomes a mirror of the emotions and needs of the protagonists and creates a musical world drama of atmospheric density.
