Listen to Gabriel Fauré's famous Requiem and his Cantique de Jean Racine on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of his death in St. Stephen's Cathedral in Vienna.
Written between the death of his father and that of his mother, it is a vision of death not in the sense of a gloomy funeral but of happy relief. “It is as gentle as I am,” Fauré later observed. The Requiem is Fauré's best-known and most performed work inside and outside France; it had a far-reaching impact on the development of French music.
Under the direction of Prof. János Czifra, former cathedral music director at Salzburg Cathedral, the masterpiece will be performed as part of the Sing Mit! Choir festivals were intensively developed in several workshops by choristers from all over the world. The crowning conclusion is the performance with well-known soloists and the Vienna Cathedral Orchestra in St. Stephen's Cathedral.
