Placebo - Schedule, Program & Tickets
Placebo
Placebo are back from their long hibernation and release their first single in five years - and the first from their new album - "Beautiful James". A joyous and celebratory song that comes along with a faint pinch of antagonism against the increasingly prominent, ignorant factions that dominate modern conversation. As Brian Molko commented at the time, "If the song's purpose is to irritate the square and uptight, then so be it".
As great masters of cataloging the human condition, Placebo's unique way of examining both weaknesses and beauty falls on fertile ground in 2021. Crawling out of the pandemic into a landscape of intolerance, division, technological saturation and looming environmental catastrophe is a voice that has rarely felt more relevant to contemporary discourse and better suited to sing these stories to the world .
In the magnetic slow-burn of the new track "Surrounded By Spies" the undermining of civil liberties is the central theme. Brian Molko's deft lyrical delivery combines with a creeping sense of claustrophobia that appropriately makes the wall feel like it's approaching from all sides.
