"Pierrot Lunaire" - Schedule, Program & Tickets

Schönberg's "Pierrot lunaire", composed in Berlin in 1912, consisting of twenty-one small melodramas for voice and five instruments based on poems by Albert Giraud, revolutionized the style of performance by using spoken singing for the first time. Already atonal, but not yet written in twelve-tone technique, the work is considered a milestone on the composer's path to his modern musical language. The exceptional violinist Patricia Kopatchinskaja had long dreamed of playing this unique piece and declaiming it at the same time, but was only able to realize this plan when tendinitis forced her to take a break from playing the violin and temporarily turned her into a pure narrator. She is now involved in this special project, which includes the »Pierrot« with works by, among others. C. Ph. E. Bach, Bartók, Milhaud and Ravel combined, together with an exquisite ensemble, of course, also used her instrument again, so that the audience will experience her both as a violinist and as a brilliant reciter.
