Nurejew´s Dog

Family piece with music and dance by Peter te Nuyl and Keren Kargarlitsky

In German language

A touching and humorous story about friendship, trust and loss, ambition and the hardness of ballet life as well as about dogs and people: The famous dancer Rudolf Nureyev has a dog that lies on a pillow in the ballet studio and watches the dancers' feet; At home he listens to the stories that Nureyev tells about his life. When Nureyev dies, the strict ballet mistress Marika inherits the dog. The dog growls at her and becomes aggressive; the animal shelter seems to be the only solution. Until Marika realizes that the dog has hidden qualities...

The author Elke Heidenreich wrote a novella about Rudolf Nureyev's dog. Director and choreographer Florian Hurler actually knew Nureyev's dog and the ballet mistress Marika! Based on their stories, Peter te Nuyl wrote a theatrical script and text. Keren Kagarlitsky created a collage of well-known ballet music, opera melodies and specially composed pieces.
