Work on the Csárdás Princess began as early as 1914, but after the outbreak of the First World War the work was put aside for a while. The final piece reflects the “Great War” and the approaching end of the monarchy in many ways. In his production, director Johannes Erath asks the question: “Why do we still need theater when the world is threatening to sink? Why do we only realize the value of things when we have lost them? Can we create an evening at the theater in which every soul in the audience can be enchanted?”
