Alma - Premiere

An opera about Alma Mahler-Werfel: composer, praying mantis, muse, femme fatale – myth. The composer Ella Milch-Sheriff focuses on an aspect of Alma that has so far received little attention in the numerous artistic adaptations of the biography: Alma, the mother. The only one of her children who survived into adulthood - her daughter Anna, who was successful as a sculptor in the 1930s - appears as a stage character in a dialogue with her mother about the highly complex psyche of her “tiger mommy” (quote Anna Mahler). the reason to go.

Composer Ella Milch-Sheriff was born in Haifa in 1954. Her work includes symphonic music as well as chamber music and to date includes five musical theater works. Her experience as a singer and her understanding of the human voice, together with her emotional and linguistic sensitivity, have made opera a special focus within her oeuvre.
