Mysterien: Ein Salzburger großes Welttheater
Where is the origin of human existence? What questions do we need to ask in the present? Which answers to find for the future?
In four different designs and based on the “Salzburg Great World Theater” by Hugo von Hofmannsthal, all branches of the Salzburg State Theater - opera, drama, dance - deal with the mystery of creation: Charles Darwin, whose world and research in the text area “ Galapagos "comes to life, as well as his scruples about having to deviate from the Bible with the theory of evolution, are replaced by Haydn's divinely beautiful sounds of" creation "and with the piece" Who sows the wind "and the bitter dispute between evolution and creationism countered. The evening in the Salzburg State Theater ends with “Homo = Deus”, which focuses on the meaning of creation and its finitude.
A generous break with an extended culinary offer contributes to the enjoyment of the evening.
Following the example of the “Salzburg Great World Theater” by Hugo von Hofmannsthal (1874–1929), which premiered in the Salzburg Collegiate Church in 1922 under the direction of Max Reinhardt, the tradition of the medieval mystery plays is revived under new auspices in the Salzburg State Theater.
Artistic director Carl Philip von Maldeghem staged the theater marathon in collaboration with ballet director Reginaldo Oliveira and designer Stefanie Seitz, with whom he launched the major project “Dionysia - Theater. Spectacle. Rausch ”at the Felsenreitschule. Gabriel Venzago is at the podium of the Salzburg Mozarteum Orchestra.
