MozartOPER - La clemenza di Tito
Opera by W. A. Mozart for the coronation of Leopold II as King of Bohemia, performed by the Summer Academy of the Vienna Philharmonic in cooperation with the MUK Vienna.
The story takes place in ancient Rome. Vitellia hates the Roman Emperor Tito for not choosing her as his wife. Because Tito wants to marry the sister of his friend Sesto, Servilia. Sesto, however, desires Vitellia, who promises him her love for the death of Tito. Servilia rejects Tito, who then tries to Vitellia. But the assassination is already in order, the attack fails. Vitellia admits to having been the initiator, Sesto is sentenced to death. In a deep conflict between friendship and raison d'etat, Tito recognizes the problem in which every ruler is. He decides to apply leniency (Italian clemenza) and pardons Sesto and Vitellia.
