Meisterwerke für Streichquartett: Die Königsdisziplin

Before Beethoven approaches his first string quartet, he has already published numerous string trios, piano trios and violin sonatas. His respect for Haydn and Mozart is too great. Brahms claims to have composed and discarded more than 20 quartets before releasing his three quartets - too much scruples in the face of the championship of classics like Beethoven. Shostakovich dares in his quartets what he can not dare elsewhere because of the Stalinist regime. This, too, testifies to the outstanding position of the genre string quartet.
