Medea - Schedule, Program & Tickets

Medea

Medea - king's daughter, wife, cheated, stranger. Medea - child murderer, witch. Hardly any other female figure from antiquity has inspired more adaptations than she. Each epoch cast its own view of the myth about the woman who, out of love for Jason, leaves her home country forever and follows him to Greece. She bears him two children, but after a few years has to make way for another, younger king's daughter. Medea does the unimaginable: she not only murders Jason's new bride, but also her own children.

Simon Stone brings MEDEA into the present in its new version and mixes the ancient tragedy of Euripides with a real story: In the 1990s, the American doctor Deborah Green set fire to the family house after her divorce and killed her three children in the process. At Stone, Medea becomes Anna, a pharmacist who has just completed a stay in psychiatry. Now she wants to revive the once loving relationship with her husband Lucas, but he has now turned his eye to the young daughter of his boss. Anna wants to forgive the affair and start over with him and the children, but Lucas has other plans. On the verge of losing everything - her career, her husband, her children - Anna sees only one way out. In Simon Stone, myth, fiction and reality combine to create a state-of-the-art tragedy.
