René Jacobs celebrates festive Advent music together with the Zürcher Sing-Akademie and the Basel Chamber Orchestra. Johann Sebastian Bach's cantata Herz und Mund und Tat und Leben welcomes the approaching birth of Jesus with the sound of trumpets and culminates in the well-known chorale Jesus bleibet meine Freude. Domenico Scarlatti strikes completely different tones in his Salve Regina, a heartfelt setting of the Marian hymn. Johann Sebastian Bach's Magnificat is based on Mary's song of praise from the Gospel of Luke and is a great ringing praise of God with drums and trumpets.
