Les Contes d´Hoffmann - Schedule, Program & Tickets
Les Contes d´Hoffmann
Opera in three parts, in three acts, with prologue and epilogue, in French, with Hungarian and English surtitles
What makes E.T.A. Hoffmann's stories so memorable is the spectacular combination of unbridled fantasy and real social situations. In his unfinished last work, Offenbach deviated from the style of his hilariously satirical operettas, which were full of the witty and mocking social criticism of his day. Of course, this work is not without humor either, but the poet's romantic adventures are dominated by dark, sometimes fateful shades of color. Four evil characters accompany Hoffmann on his search for the absolute ideal of femininity and bring him to misery, which repeatedly confronts him with death, even when he is intoxicated by love. With these stories, which consist of both the real and a hair-raising imaginary world, the composer leads his listeners into a universe where the lines between dream and reality are blurred.
