L’histoire de Manon by Kenneth MacMillan gave new life to the character created by Prévost and made famous by the operas of the same name, delineating the charm and tragedy of the protagonist and creating splendid male roles, in a passionate and dramatically captivating ballet now interpreted by Svetlana Zakharova and Roberto Bolle. As for the music, MacMillan chose to get inspiration from Massenet rather than from Puccini, although excluding Manon and selecting instead pieces from Le Cid and Thaïs, from Don Quichotte and Cléopâtre, from Ariane and Cendrillon.
