Kiss Of The Spider Woman

The homosexual window dresser Molina is imprisoned in a Latin American dictatorship. His new cellmate is the resistance fighter Valentin. Torture and humiliation determine life in prison. Molina's motto for survival is to dream up a beautiful illusory world. After initial refusal, Valentin agrees. In the center of the glamorous fantasies is the seductive diva Aurora, who in her role as a spider woman also embodies deadly power. A play about the victory of love, dignity and fantasy over brutality and betrayal. The music is dominated by Latin American rhythms and confronts the glamor of Molina's filmic dreams with the painful visualization of fear, violence and longing for love.

SPIDER WIFE KISS is considered the most impressive work of the successful duo John Kander and Fred Ebb, alongside CABARET and CHICAGO. The world premiere was attended by 922 performances. In 1993, the Broadway production received seven Tony Awards, including Best Musical and Best Score.
