Kopatchinskaja - Dresdner Philharmonie - Stockhammer - Schedule, Program & Tickets
Kopatchinskaja - Dresdner Philharmonie - Stockhammer
The evening with Patricia Kopatchinskaja and the Dresden Philharmonic under the direction of Jonathan Stockhammer is all about classical modernism: the E flat major concerto for chamber orchestra "Dumbarton Oaks" - a work commissioned by the art patron Robert Wood Bliss and his wife Mildred Barnes Bliss on the occasion of their 30th wedding anniversary, which has the name of their country estate as the title - Stravinsky wrote in the style of the Brandenburg Concertos. The Violin Concerto in D major, which he gave to the violinist Samuel Dushkin, was also created in 1931 with echoes of Bach. Prokofiev's Second Violin Concerto, composed on behalf of the French violinist Robert Soetens, was composed in Paris, Voronezh and Baku and was finally premiered in Madrid in 1935. The program is complemented by the C major sonata for two violins, which Prokofiev wrote for - and here we come full circle - the two violinists Samuel Dushkin and Robert Soetens, to whom the evening is dedicated.
