KlezMORE 2018 Abschlußgala
In November 2015, a top-class ensemble of musicians led by Alan Bern played a special concert at the Berlin Maxim Gorki Theater.
The repertoire was based on songs that had appeared on the Berlin label Semer von Hirsch Lewin: "Even in the increasingly uncertain Berlin of the 1930s, Semer continued to release his program, including a significant portion of Yiddish music" (Alan Bern). As "Rescued Treasure: Live at Gorki Berlin" the recordings were released on Piranha in 2016 on CD.
With that, fortunately, not enough! Once again, the Semer Ensemble gathers to show in concert that "Yiddish tradition is not to be equated with shtetl romance, kitsch or identification with the victims (or worse)." We see ourselves in the spirit of Semer: our concert is a tribute to the label and its artists, not just to preserve their memory, but to celebrate today and continue what they stood for with their lives and their music. "
