King Pomade´s new Clothes
Children's opera in two parts, in Hungarian, with Hungarian and English surtitles
His Majesty King Pomade has a big problem: he has nothing to wear for his name day party because he has already worn all the clothes in his closet. Sometimes more than once! But then two strange weavers come into the kingdom to promise the king robes woven from a wonderful cloth - and not just any robes: only people who are honest and truthful will be able to see them!
György Ránki's popular children's opera is essentially built around the world of Hungarian folk song, but also incorporates jazz and parodic styles. With sparkling musical humour, the composer holds up a carnivalesque mirror to the hypocritical court world.
(And don't tell anyone: the king is naked!)
