La forza del destino
The Marquis of Calatrava forbids his daughter Leonora to marry the South American nobleman Don Alvaro. The lovers try to escape, but the marquis gets them. In the ensuing argument, Alvaro accidentally kills the marquis, who curses his daughter when he dies. Leonora and Alvaro split up during their escape. Leonora's brother Don Carlo di Vargas decides to find her and avenge his father.
Don Carlo enters the Spanish army with a false name, unaware that Don Alvaro has done the same. The men become close friends during the fight in Italy. However, friendship becomes hostility when Don Carlo Leonora's portrait between Alvaros possession discovers and realizes who his new "friend" really is. His subsequent actions led the men back to Spain and the remote monastery, where a disguised Leonora lives as a recluse.
