Spring! Nature is awakening to new life and with it all the mystical mythical creatures that live in forests, lakes and seas have awakened for centuries. For the Baroque composers, the ancient myths of nature were a constant source of inspiration - and so the Berliner Residenz Ensemble invites you to an amusing spring program that presents the fantastic creatures in the musical works of Telemann, Purcell and Fischer in a truly enchanting way brings the concert hall.

“The Fairy Queen” is one of Henry Purcell's most famous stage works. Based on Shakespeare's "Midsummer Night's Dream" - where there were no limits to the baroque imagination - and played with virtuosity, the fairytale atmosphere in "The Fairy Queen Suite" is brought to life. You almost think you can see the shadows of the fairy queen Titania and her dancing elves darting through the royal walls...

The Suite 1 op.1 Le Journal du Printemps by Johann Caspar Ferdinand Fischer, with its clear elegance and dance movements such as Air and Minuet, impressively shows the influence of the French style with Lully as a great role model. Fischer's suites are among the best works of German instrumental music around 1700.

Finally, the Water Overture TWV 55:C3 by Georg Philipp Telemann plays with the fickle nature of water in an almost picturesque way. With its imaginative program titles such as “The Playing Naiads” or “Neptunus in Love”, the suite unfurls a mythological panorama and brings to life the legendary creatures, the wind and the sound of the sea in the royal concert hall.

Look forward to a musically virtuosic and imaginative celebration of spring!
