Three pieces in one evening. Three major Italian operas – with the most varied of colors and temperatures: Giacomo Puccini composed three scores for his IL TRITTICO cycle, which premiered in 1918, which once again summarize what Italian opera could be like in those years. His triptych thrives on contrasts such as reflections of the pieces and ultimately revolves around a single motif: death as the central reference point of life.

IL TABARRO (The Coat) shows a dark love triangle in the milieu of boatmen on the Paris Seine and ends in a brutal murder out of jealousy. The second opera, SUOR ANGELICA, stands in stark contrast to this as an all-female piece, but its content also revolves around the questions of death and transcendence. GIANNI SCHICCHI finally shows Puccini's great comedic potential as a bitterly angry satyr play about deceived swindlers on the death bed of a relative.
