The Venetian Antonio Caldara was under Emperor Charles VI. was appointed first vice-kapellmeister of the Wiener Hofmusikkapelle and wrote mainly vocal music there. He had already been working in Vienna for nine years when he composed the opera Il Venceslao in 1725. With his compositional style, which is influenced both by the Venetian and the Viennese style, he dedicates himself here to the Polish ruler Wenceslaus. His two sons fall unhappily in love with the same woman. The brothers fight out their rivalry in vocally almost ludicrous arias, accompanied by the Polish {oh!} Orkiestra Historyczna conducted by Martyna Pastuszka.
