Doctor Bartolo wants to marry his ward Rosina, who he holds like a prisoner. He wants to get to their assets. But there is still the enamored Count Almaviva, who serenades Rosina under the name Lindoro. To get closer to her, he teams up with the barber Figaro, who goes in and out at Bartolo. Rosina sees the attractive Lindoro as the only way out of escaping the tyranny of her guardian. In the meantime Bartolo has learned that the notorious Count Almaviva is in Seville and is supposed to follow his Rosina. The friend of music, Basilio, advises him to defame the count at Rosina as a precaution. Bartolo prefers to marry Rosina immediately. Figaro warns Rosina and confirms Lindoro's infatuation. As planned, Almaviva now disguises himself as a soldier at Bartolo's quarters, but behaves so conspicuously that he is almost arrested and this plan fails. The next morning, he tries again to get into Bartolo's house. This time he pretends to be Basilios, who is supposed to teach on behalf of his supposedly ill teacher Rosina. Bartolo, of course, remains suspicious and does not take his eyes off the two. There is hardly any time left for lovers to discuss an escape plan, because Basilio himself appears unexpectedly and can only be immobilized by Almaviva with a full wallet. When Bartolo is informed by Basilio a little later about the true state of affairs, he instructs Basilio to get a notary immediately. He maliciously shows Rosina the letter she previously wrote to Lindoro and claims that he received it from Count Almaviva - Lindoro was only the lascivious count's sidekick. Rosina feels betrayed and betrayed. When the count and Figaro climb in with the help of a ladder, she initially refuses to be kidnapped by the traitor Lindoro for the count. However, when she is assured that Lindoro and Imaviva are one and the same person, she happily agrees to the wedding by the notary. Bartolo, who is late, has been left behind and has to admit that his efforts were nothing but useless caution.
