Hunyadi László - Schedule, Program & Tickets

Hunyadi László

Opera in four acts, in three parts, in Hungarian, with Hungarian and English surtitles

János Hunyadi is responsible for ringing bells around the world; Mátyás Hunyadi is the hero of a number of folk tales; László Hunyadi inspired “only” one opera. An opera that is actually about his younger brother, the last great king of Hungary, or about the events before his reign. However, the aim is not to raise László from the dead, who was the reason and explanation for Mátyás Hunyadi coming to the throne. It is true that the original score, heard for the first time in almost ninety years, offers an excellent opportunity to play the role of the knight performed at a young age. The aim of this production is to stage a piece that is true to the original and thus to present the artistic and technical possibilities of the opera.
The production of this work was based on the Ferenc Erkel Operas critical edition series of the Department of Hungarian Music History of the Institute of Musicology of the Research Center for Humanities.
