Elektra
Opera in one act, in German, with Hungarian and English surtitles
“So many beautifully constructed and amazingly nuanced scenes! Full of ambivalence, the initial kinship of the three female figures and the antagonism arising from the indissolubles of life - paradox merges with complexity. Hurled from one perspective to the next, we can only agree with Klytemnestra: No one can figure out what the truth is, no one will ever unravel what the truth is,” wrote Géza Fodor about Balázs Kovalik's production.
Richard Strauss wrote a stunning one-act masterpiece to Hofmannsthal's libretto, an opera of female tragedy. It is a faithful adaptation of the Greek tragedy in which reconciliation, revenge and madness fueled by a guilty conscience collide.
