Drei Winter - Schedule, Program & Tickets

Drei Winter

Zagreb, 1945. Tito's communist partisans have won the fight against the fascists. Rose moves into a house that has been nationalized and divided up with her mother, husband and baby Masha. To their amazement, the house is not uninhabited: they meet someone who has stayed at home

1990. Adult Masha still lives in the same house with her sister Dunja, her husband Vlado and their two daughters Alisa and Lucija. Outside, the first democratic elections are being held in Croatia and Slovenia, and the population is rebelling against the communist regime of Yugoslavia.

2011. The house is now the scene of a family dinner. Vlado makes drunken speeches. Alisa lives and works in London, Lucija will marry an entrepreneur tomorrow and Croatia is in negotiations to join the European Union.

In Three Winters, author Tena Štivičić tells a family epic through the lens of three historical moments in the history of Croatia. Every private action is political - and politics influences personal decisions and destinies. Like no other author, Štivičić combines private and social dramaturgy and bears witness to a wounded world.
