In St. Stephen's Cathedral, hear gentle gusts and powerful thunderstorms, bird songs and the barking of a dog, the hunt and a peasant dance that Vivaldi composed in his Four Seasons. Vivaldi knew better than anyone else how to create musical images that stimulate the imagination and captivate the audience.

Where would it be more appropriate to perform Vivaldi's “The Four Seasons” - a parable about life and death - than in St. Stephen's Cathedral in Vienna, where the funeral ceremonies were celebrated after the composer's death in 1741? Vivaldi came to Vienna in 1740, impoverished, in the hope of being able to enter the emperor's service. He died just ten months later and was therefore buried in Vienna.

J. S. Bach's Violin Concerto in E major complements the program, for which the composer took Vivaldi's concertos as a model. It therefore contains, on the one hand, echoes of Vivaldi, and on the other hand, Bach's unmistakable musical spirit with virtuoso solos. The dialogue between the strings and the soloist creates an entertaining and airy concert experience that wonderfully rounds off Vivaldi's Four Seasons.

Harmonia Ensemble Vienna

The Harmonia Ensemble Vienna was formed to pass on masterful interpretations to the next generation, to mix great experience with young esprit, to spread the joy of making music together to the audience and to be able to prepare and arrange programs with great attention to detail.
The ensemble's musicians are made up of experienced chamber musicians who have been and have been members of renowned string quartets and piano trios for many years - many of whom teach at universities and music schools - as well as soloists with great success in international competitions, as well as graduates, some of whom have been with the experienced ensemble members. The ensemble can be expanded to include wind instruments and vocal soloists, which significantly enriches the repertoire.
In the Harmonia Ensemble, the musicians share the joy of making music together. They have been supporting St. Stephen's Cathedral in Vienna for years with their very successful summer and Advent concerts.
